Blak Country is a celebration of the profound resonance that First Nations people have found in country music through its themes of connection to Country, heartbreak and solace.
Curated by Barkindji songwoman Nancy Bates, Blak Country gathers powerful First Nations voices from across generations, backed by a full band and imagery of the land which breathes life into the songs.
“When we take time — when we make time — to listen to the songs and stories that come from our First Nations songwriters, we are listening to and learning from Country, as our ancestors did and as our grandchildren will do.” – Nancy Bates
Accompanying each of them is the guitar, a reclaimed instrument of colonisation and a featured character in the carriage of Songlines.
